Whittier is a Denver neighborhood northeast of Downtown Denver. The neighborhood is named for a school formerly located at 24th Avenue and Downing Street which was named after John Greenleaf Whittier. Given the philosophy of Whittier, the neighborhood was ethnically integrated from its inception. Its boundaries are 23rd Avenue to the south, Martin Luther King Blvd. to the north, Downing Street to the west and York Street to the east. The neighborhood is mostly residential and older 1890's homes.
